What Does Pest Control Actually Cost in St. Louis?
Most pest control companies won't put a number on their website. You fill out a form, someone calls you, and the price arrives at the end of a sales conversation.
We'd rather just tell you.
The short answer
For a typical single-family home in the St. Louis area:
- Quarterly general pest control (Home Shield): $45 a month for most homes. Bigger homes run $49, and very large homes up to about $58.
- General pest plus rodent (Home Shield + Rodent Guard): $49 to $58 a month, depending on the size of the home.
- First visit: most homes pay $175. It's normally $275, and new quarterly customers get $100 off. Smaller homes start at $150.
Add-ons on their own:
- Rodent Guard: $85 a quarter, with a first visit from $195.
- Mosquito and tick yard treatments: $65 to $95 per treatment, most yards about $75, and $65 when you're also on Home Shield. About nine treatments from mid-April to mid-October.
- Moles: most jobs run $275 to $375.
- Termite protection: quoted by phone or on-site, based on your home's perimeter.
Current ranges are always on our pricing page.
Why it's a range and not one number
Four things move the number.
Square footage and the size of the footprint. We treat a perimeter. A long, sprawling ranch has more perimeter than a compact two-story of the same square footage, and it costs more to treat.
What's around you. Backing to woods, a creek or a field means more pressure, which usually means more product and sometimes more frequent visits. A house in the middle of a subdivision is an easier property than one on a tree line in Wildwood.
What you're dealing with now. An active infestation costs more to knock down than a preventive program costs to maintain. That's most of what the initial service fee covers.
What you actually need. Rodent stations, mosquito treatments and specialty work are separate because not everyone needs them.
What the initial service is for
The initial visit is the heavy one, and it's why it's priced separately.
It's a full interior and exterior treatment, crack and crevice applications around baseboards, entry points and basement areas, a complete foundation barrier spray, de-webbing, and a real inspection of the structure for activity and entry points. If you're adding rodent service, it also covers station placement.
After that, ongoing visits are maintenance on an established barrier, which takes less product and less time. That's why the recurring number is lower.
How billing usually works
Quarterly service, billed monthly. So a $135 quarterly visit shows up as $45 a month rather than a lump every three months.
The part worth reading before you sign anything
Two things separate companies more than price does.
Contracts. A lot of pest control companies lock you into 12 or 24 months with an early termination fee. That's normal in this industry and it's worth knowing before you sign, not after. We don't do contracts. Thirty days' notice, no fee, and if we're not earning it every 90 days you should leave.
Re-service policy. Ask whether re-treatments between scheduled visits cost extra. If pests come back six weeks after a visit, is that a free call or a new invoice? Ours is unlimited and free, because if the treatment didn't hold that's on us.
Also worth asking: who actually shows up, is the technician licensed, and is it the same person each time.
Where the cheapest quote usually comes from
Sometimes it's a genuinely lean operator and it's a good deal.
More often it's one of three things: a promotional first-year rate that steps up sharply at renewal, a long contract with a cancellation fee doing the real work, or exterior-only service being sold as full service.
That last one catches people. Exterior-only is a legitimate approach and it's most of what protects a home. But if the quote is cheap because interior treatment isn't included at all and never will be, that's worth knowing while you're comparing.
What we'd tell you to compare
Put the quotes side by side on these, not just the monthly number:
- Contract length and cancellation terms
- Whether re-service between visits is free
- What the initial fee covers
- Whether interior treatment is included when you need it
- Number of visits per year
- Whether the technician is licensed, and at what level
Frequently asked questions
How much is pest control per month in St. Louis?
Quarterly general pest control for most single-family homes is $45 a month, billed monthly, with bigger homes up to about $58. Adding Rodent Guard puts most homes in the $49 to $58 range. Mosquito and tick yard treatments are extra, $65 to $95 per treatment during the season.
How much is the initial pest control treatment?
Most homes pay $175 for the first visit. It's normally $275, and new quarterly customers get $100 off. Smaller homes start at $150. It's a heavier, more thorough visit than the ongoing ones.
Is quarterly pest control worth it?
For most St. Louis homes, yes. Products hold for roughly 90 days, so four visits a year keeps a barrier in place year-round. One-time treatments handle the pests present that day and do nothing about the next wave.
Do pest control companies require a contract?
Many do, often 12 to 24 months with an early termination fee. Not all. Ask specifically, and ask what leaving early costs.
Can I get pest control cheaper by doing it myself?
Sometimes, for a minor issue. The gap is that retail products are largely repellent and lower-concentration, which is why DIY ant and spider problems often get worse. For an established problem, DIY usually costs more in time and repeat purchases than it saves.
Do you offer a discount for paying annually?
Yes, 5 percent off the annual service cost when paid in full. That applies to the recurring service, not the initial visit.
