ANT CONTROL IN ST. LOUIS

Ant control is treatment that kills the colony, not just the ants you see. In St. Louis that means identifying the species first, then pairing a non-repellent barrier outside with baits inside, so foragers carry the treatment back to the nest. Zero Pest covers ants, including carpenter ants, on our quarterly Home Shield plan across St. Louis, West County and St. Charles County.

KNOW YOUR ENEMY

Four ants we see most in St. Louis.

The species decides the treatment. That is why we identify first.

KITCHENS

Odorous house ants

Small, dark, and smell like rotten coconut when crushed. They split into new colonies when sprayed.

SIDEWALKS

Pavement ants

Little dirt piles in pavement and patio cracks, then trails inside in spring.

WOODED LOTS

Carpenter ants

Big and black. They tunnel through moist, damaged wood and leave sawdust piles.

YARDS

Little black ants

Tiny, shiny and fast. They trail from the lawn into kitchens and bathrooms.

WARNING SIGNS

How to tell you have an ant problem.

  • Trails along baseboards, counters or window sills
  • Flying ants inside in spring
  • Small piles of sawdust near wood trim or windows
  • Dirt mounds in pavement or patio cracks
  • Faint rustling in walls at night (carpenter ants)

Flying ants or termites? Ants have pinched waists and elbowed antennae. Termites have straight bodies. Send us a photo and we will tell you.

WHY SPRAY FAILS

Why ants come back after you spray.

Store-bought spray

  • Kills the ants you see, not the colony
  • Repellent sprays scatter them into your walls
  • Odorous house ants split into new colonies
  • Wears off in days

Zero Pest

  • Identifies the species first
  • Non-repellent barrier they carry back to the nest
  • Baits inside where they trail
  • Retreated every 90 days, free re-service between
HOW WE TREAT IT

Our ant treatment, step by step.

  1. Inspect and identify

We find the trails, the entry points and the species, because each one needs a different plan.

  2. Barrier outside

A non-repellent treatment 5 feet out around the foundation, plus granules in the soil where ants start.

  3. Bait inside

Baits where they trail indoors, so workers carry it back and the colony collapses.

  4. Carpenter ant check

We look for the nest and the moisture problem feeding it, and tell you what to fix.

  5. Come back

Every 90 days the barrier is rebuilt. Ants show up between visits? So do we, free.

FAQ

Ant control questions.

Why do ants keep coming back after I spray?
Store-bought sprays kill the ants you see and scatter the rest. Some species, like odorous house ants, split into new colonies when stressed. Non-repellent treatment and baits get carried back to the nest, which is how the colony actually dies.
Are carpenter ants damaging my house?
They can. Carpenter ants do not eat wood, but they tunnel through wet or damaged wood to nest. Sawdust piles near trim or windows are the giveaway. We treat them and point out the moisture problem that attracted them.
Are these flying ants or termites?
Ants have a pinched waist, elbowed antennae and front wings longer than the back ones. Termites have a straight waist, straight antennae and equal wings. Text us a photo and we will tell you which one you have.
How much is ant control in St. Louis?
Ants are covered by our Home Shield plan: most homes pay $175 for the first visit (normally $275, with $100 off for new customers), then from $45 a month for quarterly service. No separate ant charge, carpenter ants included.
Is ant treatment safe for kids and pets?
Yes. Products are safe once dry, usually about 30 minutes, and baits go in places kids and pets cannot reach.
Do you do ant control in my city?
We treat ants across St. Louis City, St. Louis County and St. Charles County, including Wildwood, Ballwin, Chesterfield, Kirkwood, Fenton, St. Charles and St. Peters.
